Filter design, using AADE Filter Design, consists of five phases:
Engineering Specifications:
The computer cannot do this for you. It can help, but it does not know what your application is.
You use the computer to verify, by trial and error, if your specifications can be met by any of the available filter types.
Synthesis:
By comparing your specifications with the response characteristics of the different response functions you select the type filter response to use (Butterworth, Chebyshev, Elliptic etc.).
The computer will synthesize a circuit diagram and parts list from your engineering specifications.
Analysis:
The computer will analyze the circuit diagram both in the frequency domain and the time domain.
Plot:
The computer will plot the the analysis for you to compare to your specifications so you can evaluate the result.
Optimization:
You, with the computers help, modify the filter schematic to make it more practical to construct and align.
